International Choice Modelling Conference

International conference dedicated to choice modelling

  • International Choice Modelling Conference 2011

    4 July 2011 – 6 July 2011

We are pleased to announce that the second International Choice Modelling Conference (ICMC) will be held in Yorkshire from 4 July to 6 July 2011. The conference will once again bring together academics and practitioners from the many areas in which choice modelling is a key technique.

Alongside a number of plenary presentations and workshops, the conference programme will consist of presentations based around peer reviewed papers. A limited number of parallel streams will be used, with a minimum of 30 minutes per presentation. Registration fees will be announced in due course, and we once again anticipate offering substantial discounts to speaking delegates. The conference will again be organised by the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds. The host of the Third International Choice Modelling Conference, to be held in 2014, will be announced during the 2011 conference.

    Exciting keynote speakers
Following the tradition of the first International Choice Modelling Conference, the highlight of ICMC 2011 will be keynote presentations by two leading international experts, namely Professor Jordan Louviere from the Centre for the Study of Choice (CenSoC) at the University of Technology, Sydney, and Professor Andrew Daly from ITS and RAND Europe. Professors Louviere and Daly have been at the forefront of the field for over thirty   years and have between them been responsible for numerous major advances, both in terms of theoretical developments as well as novel applications.

    Venue
The conference will be held at Oulton Hall, an 18th century mansion converted into a luxury hotel set in stunning grounds, and located within five miles of the centre of Leeds. The hotel boasts its own golf course, two restaurants and bars, and extensive spa and fitness facilities. All of the delegates’ requirements will be catered for, with first class meeting rooms and luxurious bedrooms, along with free high speed internet access in all hotel areas.

Abstract and paper deadlines, peer review process
The conference uses a two stage peer review process. Abstracts (up to 500 words) need to be submitted by 30 November 2010 and will be reviewed by the academic committee, with decisions due by mid December. Authors with an accepted abstract will then be invited to submit their full papers for peer review by 28 February 2011.

    Workshops: call for proposals
One half day of the conference will consist of workshops discussing current issues in the field of choice modelling. Each one of the five workshops will last three hours and will contain two 20 minute presentations by leading experts in the field, with the remainder of the time being left for the actual workshop discussions. Given the cross-cutting spirit of the conference, the two presenters in a given workshop will be from different topic areas. On the third day of the conference, the five workshop chairs will be asked to give brief plenary presentations on the outcome of the workshops. Prospective workshop organisers are invited to submit their one page proposals, containing details of speakers, to the conference organisers by 1 October 2010.

    Proceedings
The proceedings of the inaugural International Choice Modelling Conference have now been published in a book by Emerald (
order from here), and an edited book will also be produced on the basis of the second conference. Alongside this, there will be a special issue of the Journal of Choice Modelling, containing further selected papers as well as the reports from the five workshops.
