International Choice Modelling Conference 2019

Kobe, Japan

19 August 2019 – 21 August 2019

The International Choice Modelling Conference (ICMC) brings together leading researchers and practitioners from across the world and across different areas of study, including but not limited to transport studies, marketing decision making, environmental valuation, and health economics. The aim of the conference is to review recent advancements in knowledge and understanding in methodology as well as real world applications of choice models and stated choice and revealed preference survey techniques.

After two UK conferences in 2009 & 2011, followed by Sydney, Australia, in 2013, Austin, Texas, USA, in 2015 and Cape Town, South Africa, in 2017, the ICMC steering committee is pleased to bring the conference to Asia in 2019. The conference will be held in Kobe, Japan and will be jointly hosted by three universities in Japan. Toshiyuki Yamamoto (Nagoya University), Junyi Zhang (Hiroshima University) and Nobuhiro Sanko (Kobe University) are pleased to organise the conference.

The 2019 Conference will be held at the Kobe International Conference Center in Kobe, Japan from Monday 19 August to Wednesday 21 August 2019. Kobe is an international port city nestled below the beautiful Rokko mountain range and fronted by a tranquil blue inland sea. People from more than 130 countries live there and provide Kobe with a colourful, vibrant and cosmopolitan character. Kobe is easily reached by air and rail. Three airports are located nearby, and railway network including Shinkansen (Japanese high speed train) is excellent. This is why Kobe has hosted more than 4600 international conventions to date. Access to many attractive tourist destinations, including Kyoto, Nara, Himeji and Hiroshima, is convenient.

The organizing committee seeks abstracts on all aspects of choice modeling research for presentation at the 2019 International Choice Modelling Conference.

Papers for various sessions will be selected on the basis of extended abstracts (800-1000 words). Interested authors should submit their abstracts electronically via the conference website by 31 January 2019.

Abstracts should be detailed enough to provide adequate information on the motivation, the uniqueness of the work, the data and analysis methods, application potential and policy relevance, and anticipated results.

The call for papers is available here. Authors are also invited to submit abstracts for the special session stream with details here.

We also invite colleagues to submit ideas for more interactive workshop sessions at the conference. These proposals should be 800-1000 words long and contain details on scope of the workshop, potential participants and anticipated outcomes.

Special sessions and workshops, like any ICMC sessions, should aim to be multi-disciplinary, including speakers from multiple fields on topics that appeal to delegates from across different disciplines.
